About SoCalSights

SoCalSights is an independent visual guide to Southern California. We maintain 90 place guides built for people deciding where to go, when the light works, and what they are likely to find when they arrive.

How places are chosen

A place must offer a distinct visual or geographic reason to visit. We favor specific viewpoints, trails, shorelines, buildings, and landscapes over generic destination pages. The catalog combines structured location data, public-source research, image research, and editorial review. Inclusion is not sold, and a hotel or tourism listing does not affect a place's scenic score.

What the scenic score means

The 0–100 score is an editorial discovery aid, not a customer rating. It weighs composition, available light, seasonal variation, visual distinctiveness, and the range of photographs a location supports. Scores help sort the collection; they do not measure safety, accessibility, or whether a place is right for every visitor.

How the guide is made

Automation helps us organize source material, weather context, image metadata, and early descriptive drafts. The practical details on this site are guidance, not live access notices. Hours, permits, trail conditions, closures, tides, and local rules can change, so check the land manager or venue's official source before traveling. We correct factual errors when they are reported.

Photography and attribution

Place photographs come from licensed public collections including Wikimedia Commons and Pexels. Each gallery carries a description and the available creator, source, and license attribution. Image credits identify the photographer; they do not imply endorsement of SoCalSights.
